NYC
payphones get revived as touch-screen tablets
By Dana Kerr
New York City is removing payphones throughout the
city and replacing them with wifi smart boards. Old payphones around the city
are no longer utilized, nor make money since many people own cell phones. These
smart boards can be accessed for free, and gives the user information about
local restaurants, attractions, and transportation. The plan is to erect 250
kiosks throughout the city, and should be completed by 2013.
